CSA! CSA!
One of my favorite parts of summer (and fall) has begun--the Prospect Heights CSA has started weekly pickups. Although there is now a more local (Long Island vs. Saratoga) and slightly closer Crown Heights CSA, we decided to stick with Ted Blomgren and Windflower Farm. Last year, we bought a half share, but this year we got greedy and decided that we needed one all to ourselves. The first two pickups have been dominated by leafy greens, and we're told that broccoli is on the way next week.
The difference that having a prepaid store of greens makes to my diet is huge. This past week, while I was still getting into the swing of things, we didn't finish everything, but what we did eat found its way into nearly every lunch and dinner.
Last week, we got snow peas, scallions, two heads of lettuce, arugula, bok choi, kale and thyme and oregano plants.
This week it was snow peas, garlic scapes, scallions, one head of lettuce, spinach, bok choi, harukei turnips, kale, and arugula, along with some more herb plants.
