Tuesdays with Dorie: Thumbprints For Us Big Guys

Before anyone goes and asks the obvious, the previous recipe in the book is called Kids' Thumbprints. I'm not sure why we have to be segregated, nor why the addition of nuts implies adult sophistication, but these were some nice, jammy little cookies. In that they tasted like peanut butter and jelly (I used ground almonds instead of the recommended hazelnuts), I don't see the 'adultness' of them, but I enjoyed them. I'll put jam on anything even faster than I'll add custard. They were very buttery, and spread a lot, so next time I'd freeze them a while before baking. Other than that, an uneventful TWD--haven't done the comparison yet, but I might prefer the Kids' Thumbprints. Why mess too much with a classic?

The recipe, if you'd like it, is over at Ugly Food for an Ugly Dude, the most pleasingly self-deprecating of all TWD blogs.

It is interesting that you commented on the two recipes. I also wondered why two different thumbprints.

I like them and yours look fine. Mine did not spread though. I did refrigerate.

That's so interesting. I used almonds too (almond meal) but mine didn't spread much. No matter I still think your cookies look great!

THANK YOU for answering that question about the title! I totally didn't think of that, and no, there's nothing about these that particularly screams "GROWNUPS!" to me; maybe the addition of some booze with the jam?
