I have a feeling I may have screwed these up, though not in any way I minded. I ran out of cocoa powder, so used a little more chocolate ovaltine (I know, I know, I also have the utmost respect and love for cocoa powder), and mucked around with the chocolate proportions for much the same reason. I did add cacao nibs, which was a good move. For the fruit, I put in dried cherries, and for the 'crunchies,' as Dorie calls them, I completed the bodega substitution trick with M&Ms.
The texture was very like the Whopper Drops, more or less like a differently shaped brownie. No complaints. Most of them went uptown for the enjoyment of my cousin's suitemates at Barnard, looking very chic in their gold box.

i'm with you on the names of these crazy cookies!
Ooo - cacao nibs would be fabulous in these. Definitely ups the elegance factor with a more complicated chocolate flavor. I bet your cousin + suitemates appreciate them :)
Mmm. M&M's look great!
She certainly does come up with some "interesting" names!
those chunkers were so good! chunk on katya!
